5th UK Gathering — 2012
Thursday May 17th — Sunday May 20th 2012 |

The site is just a few minutes walk from the very picturesque lakeside, where you can hire boats or take a steamer ride on Lake Windermere. Just a few minutes walk in the opposite direction will take you into Ambleside town. A bus service will take you into Windermere and to other towns and villages in the vicinity. Ambleside itself has a host of cafés, restaurants, and interesting shops to explore. The surrounding countryside is idyllic for walking and/or cycling. There is so much to see and do in this area that you may well wish to spend longer. Regrettably, however, we must all leave the site by Sunday evening so you may wish to make a reservation elsewhere to extend your stay in this beautiful part of England.
After a few minor disappointments with meals/catering at previous meetings we are hoping to provide something a little special for you this year. We have identified some local catering organisations and are in the process of agreeing the menus. We are looking for good quality, local produce and plenty of it!
We have made a decision not to lay on a coach tour this year. There is so much to see and do locally and public transport will take you to most places of interest. Coach journeys in the Lake District can be very slow progress on the winding roads and it is an area which is best explored on foot or by bicycle.
In place of the coach tour we propose a day out on Lake Windermere on the steamer. We can obtain a group discount and special rates on a Friday. After sailing from Ambleside pier (a short walk away) as a group you can then hop on and off as you please at the various stops along the length of Lake Windermere.
We are really pushing our luck with the weather in the Lake District but hopefully, we will have yet another fantastic weekend and we look forward to welcoming you to Ambleside in May 2012.

There will be no electric hook up available. This should not be a problem for any of us as the demand on our 12V systems should be minimal for the three days. Those who have only a single leisure battery should have ample capacity. There will be two power points available for emergencies and a donation is expected for their use. If the absence of hook up presents a particular problem for any member then please let us know so that we can make special arrangements for you. |

Finding a suitable location for our Gathering in the Lake District has been quite a challenge. Many campsites refuse to book groups, even for nice people like us, and those that would do so, did not have suitable facilities for our Gathering. However, we are delighted to say that, with the help of Ruth and Geoff Bass, we have found a superb location, right in the heart of the Lake District at Ambleside, which is located at the northern end of Lake Windermere. The Ambleside Rugby club hosts many motorhome meetings and have kindly agreed to allow us to use their ground for our 2012 Spring Gathering.
The Club has full clubhouse facilities which will be exclusively available to us throughout our Gathering. The bar will be open for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and we have been assured of some very fine, real ale to be on tap! The clubhouse bar room is also available to us throughout the day. The bar will be opened exclusively for us between 6:30pm and 10:30pm. The bar is being staffed especially for our Gathering so please give your support.
Fresh water is laid on and there are dump facilities for both grey and black water (toilet cassettes). |

The cost per Carthago (2 people) for the weekend, including dinners on Friday and Saturday is expected to be: £115
A deposit cheque for £50 will be needed at the time of booking to confirm catering arrangements. The balance of £65 will be due, in cash, upon arrival on site.
